Episode 1 - A STAR IS BORN

Chic’s athletic talents are discovered by the neighborhood kids in an improvised boxing ring; they convince him to try out for the football team. With the support of new friend Lordy, and new crush Louise, Chic grows into a formidable player.  With the advice of a mysterious mentor, known only as the Man in Spats, Chic takes his playing to the next level. Chic and his teammates win the championship for East High, creating a cross-town rivalry with the boys from North. Chic is scouted by Notre Dame and Michigan, but local newspapermen conspire to keep Chic in Ohio; Chic finally agrees to attend Ohio State.

Episode 2 - THE FAME

At the OSU orientation, Chic meets former high school foes with whom he must unite as Buckeyes. Athletic director St. John introduces Chic to Coach Wilce, and the Ohio football team in their war room. Chic’s talent carries Ohio State to new heights, making him famous overnight. Pressure mounts as Chic faces their toughest competitor: Illinois! The championship earns Chic a mention as an All-American. Meanwhile, a World War rages, drawing the U.S. into the fray.  The Man in Spats insists that Chic must stay out of it, but with all the other teammates enlisting, Chic can’t bear to shirk his duty. He enlists as an army pilot, and the city of Columbus raises a toast to him.

Episode 3 - WAR!

Chic is shipped to Kelly Field, Texas and is immediately targeted for his fame. Chic is stressed to his limits with surprise drills in the middle of the night, abuse from his commanding officers, and the threat of attack from spies. Chic is awakened by the sound of an air raid, and rushes to the airstrip to protect the planes - only to be forced at gunpoint to pilot a plane and assist a spy in escaping the base. Chic discovers a document thief, and attempts to apprehend him, only to find himself court-martialed. Now in military prison, Chic pleads with St. John to help. St. John calls in the biggest names in national politics to try to rescue Chic before he wastes away in prison.

Episode 4 - A BRAVE NEW WORLD

Chic comes home to an amazing Armistice Day celebration, but is soon devastated by the war’s toll on his teammates. With little preparation, Chic must lead his team against new conference member, and age-old rival Michigan!  Paranoia abounds, and Chic must lead football practice in secrecy to protect against spies. The victory against Michigan is a godsend to OSU; Columbus celebrates, but Chic knows that Illinois, led by the ruthless George Halas, are out for blood. Chic learns that there are powerful international consequences at stake, and that this is no longer “just a game.”  The Championship match against Illinois is the bloodiest battle Chic has ever faced. With players getting injured all around, the team is falling apart at the seams; Chic finds himself outmatched! They lose to Illinois at the last second.  Chic is shattered, and Columbus mourns the devastating loss.

Episode 5 - GOING PRO

While recovering at home with his family, Chic is visited by his nemesis, Halas, who tempts him with $1000 cash to join a pro team. Chic is afraid to ruin his reputation by going pro, but his money-hungry brother, Bill, pressures him to sign a contract making them co-owners of the team. Chic meets A.E. Staley, the financier of the team and falls in love with football anew. Halas hatches a scheme with other players to have Chic intentionally injured on the field, and Chic suffers a crippling blow. Lordy helps Chic recover, while Chic discovers he is under surveillance by Halas. When Halas rebrands the team as The Chicago Bears, and excludes Chic from ownership, he and his brother sue. In a sensationalized trial, Halas is awarded the ownership of the team, and Chic is left struggling to expose the conspiracies.

Episode 6 - INTO MADNESS

Chic is interrogated by doctors after Halas slanders Chic with a charge of insanity.  Bill continues to fight for ownership of the team, while Chic takes time off to seek treatment for Dementia Praecox. St. John raises money for Chic’s treatment in a mental hospital. Chic leaves the hospital to rekindle his romance with Louise, but spies and thugs are continually sent to harass Chic. Chic explodes at the racist club members who refuse to admit Lordy, causing Louise’s brother and father to conspire to have Chic committed. In the mental hospital, a mysterious man tells Chic about the plot to murder him, and provides an escape. Chic arrives at the opening day of the new Ohio State Stadium, hiding in plain sight to foil the plot.  At the celebration afterward, Chic is tricked by Louise’s brother and forced back into the mental hospital. Bill’s lawsuit against Halas fails, and Chic is declared insane by the court. Chic is devastated.

Episode 7 - THE DIAGNOSIS

St. John can no longer keep Chic’s illness from the press. The city pities Chic, but does not understand his illness. Chic lives at home with his family, still plagued by the outcomes caused by the conspiracies he failed to thwart, and is in regular communication with the spies keeping watch on him. Chic is called out into a snowstorm by an angelic being, and begs his forgiveness. Chic’s mother comes home to find him crying, near-frozen, kneeling in the snow. Chic is taken to a VA hospital in Danville to receive long-term care. A decade passes. Chic has settled into life in the hospital, along with Lordy, and his former mentor, the Man in Spats. Chic is visited often by friends from the old days: Wilce, OSU football teams, and of course, St. John. Chic is offered a new experimental treatment called insulin shock therapy. His mother signs the papers, and Chic is subjected to a vortex of reality-shattering experiences.

Episode 8 - A RAINBOW!

Chic awakes after 44 shock therapy sessions to find that he is able to see the world clearly for the first time in thirty years.  His brother Bill takes Chic to see OSU play in Indiana. Chic meets with the 1947 Buckeyes, and offers them some touching words of wisdom. St. John learns of Chic’s recovery and makes special homecoming plans. Chic arrives in Columbus and receives a hero’s welcome. Chic reunites with Louise, who understands his struggles and redeems him.  Chic takes the seat of honor at the big homecoming game at Ohio Stadium. The band spells out his name on the field, and the crowd gives him a standing ovation.
